What's the difference between an oral and a rectal thermometer?

Question:
I heard that it was the taste, but I'm afraid to try that. It sounds kind of nasty.

Look up what each word in your question means.
oral goes in your mouth rectal goes in your behind.
an oral themometor has a blue tip where a rectal one has a red tip
Both read body temperature accurately. A rectal thermometer is thicker and heavier for the purpose for which it is used.
THE TASTE .
rectal thermometers generally have a red end and a bulb shaped tip where as oral ones have a blue end with a straight tip (that's for glass thermometers). Electric ones should be clearly marked.
Try em both, if you get a **** taste in your mouth- uhhh, that would be the rectal one!
Your just "sick" and "stupid"!!!
Technically, the only diffference is that the bulb in a rectal is more rounded to prevent injury.
Oral thermometers go in your mouth, under your tongue. Rectal go in your anus. Rectal thermometers are usually slightly larger than oral ones. Neither one has a taste.
A rectal thermometer is known to be inserted into the anus for temperature monitoring. The reason why we have such medical instrument is because human temperature is most accurate when monitored inside the anal part. Disgusting, yes. But trust me, many people don't know the difference between an oral and anal thermometer. An anal therm has a bolder point and larger body than an oral thermometer, which is slender. The difference is rather obvious, you can go check it out someday in a local drug store. Oral temperature is accurate too, just not as accurate as anal temperature. So now dont you stick an anal therm into your mouth! Good luck =)
*chuckles*
