13.5mth babyboy not yet walk?

Question:

My baby is 13.5mths already, but still doesn't know how to walk on his own. Sometimes he can cruise along with the help of some furniture. When we try to hold both of his arms to lead him walk, he refuses and bend his legs.

Should i get him a walker? is it helpful?

Hi, first of all, it's normal. My daughter walked when she was 10 months old, but my son didn't walk until he was 15 months old. So, don't worry, nothing is wrong with your son. They do it when they are ready, and pushing him to do it is actually bad for his knees & legs.

Both of my children had walkers, and I do believe they are good in teaching them to learn to balance themselves, I believe it gives them confidence. However, they are very dangerous if you don't watch them the entire time they are in their walker. Never put a walker near stairs or even steps, they could become seriously injured. If you are considering buying your son a walker, check out the ones that don't move, they don't have wheels on them, but it still teaches them balance & has neat little toys for them to play with.

Goodluck & just remember to be patient. It seems they learn to walk, talk, or whatever it is you want them to do when you least expect it! :)

*****By the way, I just read where someone said this might be a sign of autism, don't worry, it's probably not. Autism is usually something you notice once they are school aged children. This is obviously someone who doesn't know what they are talking about. So, just as one mom to the next, I wanted to let you know not to worry yourself about that. Goodluck to you & your son!

A walker will help him get from place to place, but please mention this to his pediatrician. He may have a mild form of autism.

If your pediatrician isn't concerned, I don't think you should be. My neice was talking before she was walking, she just found crawling to be a lot faster and didn't work on walking until she was 18 months and then we could hardly keep up with her. :) Ask your baby's doc at the next well baby check up! :) Good luck! I had a walker for all my children but they can be very dangerous. I think they help build strength in the childs leg muscles but your baby will walk when he wants to and nothing you or a walker can do to hurry things along. Sit back and enjoy your baby because before you know it he will be walking down the isle. GOOD LUCK and ENJOY!

He will do it when he is ready. he is just being stubborn

Our son didn't walk until he was 15 months old. If he can with the help of furniture, then he just needs a Little more time. Don't worry I'm willing to bet one day soon he'll just surprise you. A walker is not necessary.

i think your baby is okay; there are some babies that dont walk till 2 or 2.5 years. My sister didnt walk till she was 18 months. get that walker though and let your baby get more comfortable with putting weight on its legs and not holding onto anything per se. I trust you have taken ur baby to the doctors to eliminate the possibility of bine issues. do that if you havent. but yeah i dont you have much to worry about! =) Give him more time he will surprise you one day and just take off on his own.I remember that is what my daughter did and it was exciting to watch her.A little short person walking for the first time!

when he is ready to walk, he will take off like hell.

my daughter was 13 months before she took off,

my oldest child started to walk at 9 months.

if they want something bad enough and can't get to it by crawling, they will decide to walk for it.

my grandson was 10 months old when he wanted his mother who just past him to go to the kitchen, he got up and started to chase her down.

just be patient it will happen, at this time of age, a walker will slow him down, because he will depend on it instead of his feet. so i will not recommend it. just let him continue using the furniture. and don't carry him when you go to another room either, let him follow you in it, if he can't keep up, he will decide it is time to walk.
