Narcotic withdrawal?
Has anyone ever gone through narcotic withdrawal before? I'm asking because my sister has been taking one narcotic or another for many years now for back problems. She was on methadone, but stopped taking it (was in another country and couldn't get it) but I didn't witness what happened. She was currently taking oxycodone, but has stopped taking this abruptly (not of her own doing...this wasn't her choice). I've heard that you can have diarrhea, vomiting, runny nose/eyes, shaking, etc. Is it really this awful, or worse? I feel so horrible for her, but I don't know what to do for her. I spoke with her yesterday (it had been about 18 hours since her last dose of medicine) and she wasn't sounding so great...she actually snapped at me for nothing, which is very unlike her. Any way anyone out there can help me understand what she's experiencing?
i had an iv put in my hand and since then my vein is painful to touch?
Answers:
Physical withdrawal starts about 24 hours after your last dose of narcotics which last about 2 week. (severe cramping, diarrhea, sweating, muscle twitching, runny nose, sneezing, nausea irritability). She is also mentally dependent on the narcotics. That's the hard part to kick. Plus she must be in allot of pain. No wonder she was irritable. Depending on the dosage of oxycodone and the length of time she's been on narcotics she may need to be hospitalized. Is there a possibility someone else knew were the medication was kept and took it. It happens all the time. Why doesn't she have control of her own medication?

Being addicted to any drug really will have that affect on anyone- smoking not so much but the mood wings are definitely there. What she is actually doing is de-toxing her body from the medication she was taking.
Maybe suggest her seeing a doctor because depending on the dosage she was taking it can/could be harmful.
That's coming from a person who was with a crack addict, coke addict and heroin user.
Best of luck to you.
I have never gotten an "ice cream" headache. Does this mean I have fewer taste buds?
I took oxycodone for about a year and cocaine for about 2 and half. When i got off it cold turkey it was the most horrible thing. Its like taking away your oxygen and you trying to breathe. thats how it is for her when you take it away. She'll get over it soon and be back to a happy cheeryself, she may seem mad now, but she'll love you again.
Tell me why when I go to sleep my nose can be clear my eyes don't itch, I'm not congested?
My brother was a heroine junkie. Oxycodone is a generic form of heroine. He had all that you mentioned, plus hot and cold flashes, problems sleeping, night terrors, migraines, he even went into a seizure because of it. It was really bad. With every person, w/d is different. The only thing you can do for her is make sure she gets plenty of fluids, keep tylenol handy and dont leave her alone. support is the best way to help. You want to know how it feels? Imagine getting hit by a semi...not fun. My brother told me it was kind of like that. Its hard to go thru but she will get thru it. She just needs your love and support.
Is there a point to your life if it sucks?
yes you do go through a withdrawal after taking this type of meds for a period of time then stop quickly. you have to slowly taper off these by taking less of them until you are off of them. but this goes for a lot of different meds including smoking.
