how do muscles get sore?

Question:
when i play to much basketball my feet and muscles get sore and they hurt. i know that they get tired but how do they get sore? explain please.

Answers:
Typically, muscle soreness is caused by a build up of Lactic Acid. Muscles need oxygen to work most efficiently, however during intense activity, you may push them beyond their oxygen stores. Then they switch to a no oxygen process - called anaerobic metabolism. The muscles still propel you down the basketball court but much less efficiently and a by-product of anaerobic metabolism is lactic acid. This lactic acid makes your muscle sore.
The more "in shape" the muscle is the better it can use oxygen and the less sore they get.

Your feet - which have relatively little muscle mass in them - may be getting sore from bad shoes. Consider an insert.

either u ha vent played Sports for a long time or u are over weight. u need to stretch some muscles in your entire body when u play any kind of sport.

It is called lactic acid. It builds up when you use your muscles, causing them to ache. Stretching them out when they hurt is the best. I don't know too much about it, but I do know that the more you exercise, the more lactic acid is pumped into the muscle. That not only tells your body that the muscle is being overworked, but also helps to rebuild the muscle better than it was.somehow.

by using them strengeously over and over and you don't break them in first you just use a muscle that you never excercised and your body is saying to much to quick, basically a warm up on the area and don't go haywire start slow and increase gradually but if you start to feel and pain stop and warm up that area gently and stop for that day. to much info!!

Your muscles get sore because you microscopically tear muscle fibers when you use them. If you played basket ball everyday for a long period of time you would develop those muscles to the point where you would only feel little to no soreness unless you changed your routine or got injured. This is why it is good to participate in many different physical activities so that you can develop all of the muscles in your body to build endurance and strength.

=) im happy cuz i know this 1
what happens is when you excercise or you work your muscles, the acid gets put in em. it starts eating away the muscle(causing them to be sore) muscles get stronger cuz the body rebuilds em stronger and bigger

Contrary to popular belief, this increased concentration of lactate does not directly cause acidosis, nor is it responsible for muscle pain or "burning".

Anyway, drinking water helps flush out whatever is causing the pain. Stretching helps too.
