The sperm most likely to impregnate an egg are the ones that are the most determined. Therefore, sperm will become more determined with each passing generation.
Even if you go with the "the earth is 6,000 years old" theory, that's something like 300 generations of sperm getting more and more determined. And if you go with the theories that the earth is much, much older than that...Well, it's a lot of years of determination.
Did you know that not even a condom is 100% effective? If it is meant to be, it will happen. In other words...You should always suspect the worse.
I'm assuming by birth control/STD protection stuff, you mean the pill and condoms used properly every time. If so, call it fate I guess. If however, you are referring to a method such as pulling out, the rhythm method, or just good old-fashioned prayer, then I'd say your problem lies not with determined sperm, but with an education system that refuses to teach kids how babies are and aren't made.
