What should i expect after a laraoscopy procedure?

Question:
I'm 19 and am thought to have endometriosis

Answers:
Depending on what is done (is it diagnostic only? Or therapeutic as well, where they will destroy the implants when detected?), it will take you a week or two overall to totally recuperate. Laparoscopy, while minimally invasive, is STILL surgery and should not be mistakenly minimized as "simple." You will still need to recuperate and heal, especially if the Endo is treated. If your doctor has no plans to treat what he or she finds, I suggest finding another doctor who will. There is no sense in opening a patient up (albeit through small incisions) just to be told, "yep, you had Endo, we didn't remove it, here's some Lupron to treat it."

Some resources I recommend:

*note - be sure to check out the "files" there, as they have a free laparoscopy info manual with lots of "what to expect' and "how to cope" type of info

Girl Talk, for young women with Endo

*note - be sure to download the free "Girl Talk Kit" which specifically discusses Endo in younger patients and treatments, etc.

Good luck and definitely check out the Lap manual above so you know what to expect, etc.

Laproscopic surgery is easier to recover from than invasive surgery. They will probably keep you in the hospital overnight and then you will have to follow up with the surgeon after a week. Good luck and I hope all goes well with you
you will have TONS of gas.. cause they pump your abdomen up with CO2 carbon dioxide.. to help them see inside.. you will have a little scar in your belly button..
Not much pain though. If u ever had anesthesia before and no problems, great. Ask the Dr. to give u pain killers before you wake up.
I had the same exact procedure for the same exact reason many years ago. It is a simple procedure, they just put two little slits, one above your pelvic area (bikini line) and one at the bottom tip of your belly button. You are asleep for this. There's minimal pain, just soreness where the staples are (if that's what you will get). The thing that bothered me the most was my shoulder, because they pump air into you for some reason and mine settled in my shoulder and I had a little pain there believe it or not..lol Anyway, just take it easy for a day or two and you'll be fine. Good luck!
When I had the procedure done, the surgeon used a general anesthesia. There was a small incision made in my naval area, and a scope with a camera was inserted. I was a little uncomfortable in my stomach area afterwards, and there was some weeping from the small incision, but there was no major problems. Good luck to you.
You'll be sore, but the recovery is so much quicker than non-laparoscopic procedures because the incision is very small.
The air they pump you up with gives you REALLY sore shoulders if you sit up or stand.....Make sure you lay down or recline for 24 hours at least...Other than that it shouldn't be too bad don't worry....You know pain if you have endo and this will be a piece of cake in comparison to that...Good luck
Incisional pain is minimal, especially if the surgeon injects local anesthesia. Nausea somtimes complicates laparoscopic surgery-less likely if you're well hydrated. People occasionally experience shoulder pain caused by irritation of the diaphragm from retained gas (which is reabsorbed).
