depression : any alternative to paxil for me? Please help.?

Question:
I suffer from depressive disorder, and when untreated, I suffer from major depressions. My docs tried many meds with me, but Paxil was the one that worked for me well.( I didn't get depressed many years in a row while I was on it) But after longer period of taking paxil, I had increased side effects, and decided to gradually wear it off. The thing is, I'm going to need some medication for sure. Is there any alternative to paroxetine based drug (paxil) that could help me, but with fewer side effects and withdrawal hell?
Any helpful adivces would be very much appreciated.

Answers:
I've been going through the EXACT same thing. My doc recently switched me from Paxil to Wellbutrin - the transition was pure hell, but I'm leveling out now & feeling better than I have in a long time..

Good luck sweetie, Marilyn

You should have discussed this with your doctor before going of the medication so that you could taper off the Paxil and get used to the new medication. Yes you are going to need some medication for sure.

Go see your doctor.

I was on paxil for several months, the crap is evil... I did help me to not be depressed, cause it supressed ALL feelings/emotions, for all practical purposes I was a dang robot.. and another bad part was the sexual side affects.!! The doctor prescribed it (should I say general practitioner) after I filled out a questionnaire and I was on in the same day.. like getting candy!! Which only proves that their heads are up their a$$es and they have to be getting kick backs from the drug companies.. so the more they sell the more the $ they make!! I know way too many people who were wrongly diagnosed.. everyone has problems & worries, but it doesn't mean you're depressed..

My advice is to get off everything slowly, and seek different methods for dealing with your depression.. All those drugs will end up controlling you. Try God!! It works!!
