Pitbull attack?

Question:
My husband was attacked by a pitbull this afternoon. I rushed him to the hospital and he has several stitches in his leg. The guy who owned the dog shot and killed it after it attacked my husband. Now the health department can not quarintine it to watch for rabies. Also when he shot it, he did so several times and one of the bullets went through the jaw, and if it hit the cranium, then the brain is damaged and they can not tell from examing the brain if it has rabies. It did not have any rabies shots, actually any shots for the other stuff besides rabies. Now what do we do? If they can't tell from the brain if it has rabies, my husband will have to go through that terrible series of rabies shots. Has anyone had to take them and are they are awful as we have heard. What do we do about the guy and his pitbull attacking my husband. My husband did nothing at all to provoke the dog. It just attacked for no reason.

Answers:
I would imagine that even a damaged brain would give some clues as to whether the dog had rabies, but let's be honest: pit bulls are an unstable killing breed of dog that doesn't need a reason to attack. As such, unless the owner said it was uncharacteristic for the dog or it showed any other overt signs of rabies (like the classic foaming at the mouth), I would say the chance of it having rabies would be low.

Unfortunately, unless you have any certainty, your husband should endure the shots on the side of caution and you should sue the owner for negligence for not having his animal properly vaccinated nor restrained. You cannot allow a bad pet owner to get away with such a travesty.

Other Answers:
Break the cycle of suing for things like that. Now if the dog attacked anfd killed your husband, go for it. What is worse rabies or a series of shots? You know the answer.

Rabies shots are not too terrible, I had them. There is an urban legend of 20 big needle shots to the gut, untrue. As far as I know, the entire dog brain is not needed, only a portion. As for the owner, sue the F**K out of his irresponsible animal killing ***. You need to, a) take care of your animal, b) watch you animal, c) love your animal not not shhot it multiple times. Judge Judy will take care of him. P.S. I hope he is O.K. and not hurt too bad. Im not sure but you should know that all pits are not like that it ALL depends on the human owner and how they trian them(Pets or fighters) READ ON The most damage mine will do is maybe Lick you to death..I hope this dosnt turn you all against the breed
