Other Answers:
I take over-the-counter sleeping pills. Also, cut back on your caffeine espically as the evening progresses.
try to divert your mind from what u're thinking
listen to slow music and even if u're not sleeping dream bout something..being with someone, somewhere where u wud like to
You'll need to get those thoughts out of your head. So figure out what kind of stuff calms you down - is it meditation, or working out, or hiking? Whatever you do, make sure you spend some time each day (an hour would be ideal) doing some physical activity that helps you wind down. Pick some non-intellectual activities that allow your mind to ramble. It's like taking a kid to a playground to let it work off excess energy. learn how to meditate. it helps to clear your mind of everything you have been thinking of and you will fall asleep almost straight away..
The above are good ideas for getting to sleep. Staying asleep takes a bit different approach. Consider eating a snack before going to bed that will keep your blood sugar level level during the night. Lowness in blood sugar can wake you up or keep you awake.
One possible snack, 1-2 hard boiled eggs for the protein - that slows down your body's absorption of the sugar in the carbohydrates; a cookie or cracker or 2 (if you are a guy) and a handful of nuts, best are almonds or peanuts. Nuts are a good snack for anytime.
