Many things. We are mortals, so our bodies are temporal.
technically scientists dont have a reason why the human body should stop functioning, its a pretty fail proof system, given perfect health and no illnesses it would continue to repair and rebuild itself indefinitely.

People die to make room for new babies, because it is natural and because of original sin. Causes of death are varied: old age, cancer, illness, semi-trucks at 90 miles an hour, drunk drivers, falling objects, etc, etc, etc,
why car break down?
When you see a car with rust on it and it is falling apart, that is called oxidization. Humans are similar. We have parts like a car, but we do not get to replace them. We have skin that "rusts" over time and a new coat of paint rarely helps. Scientists DO know the reason a human body falls apart. Look up oxidization on line. You'll find your answer there. Everything is subject to it.
People die because if they didn't the world would be over populated and there would be nothing left for anyone. Everything in all of existance is in a constant state of change. Nothing stays the same or lasts forever. Once you except that and are ok with it you will be at peace.

People can die by many ways. natural disasters, epidemics (microorganisms), accidents, cancer, high blood pressure, heart attack and a lot more or simply because the cells of the organism got older and some vital organ dies!
there are a lot of things that cause death. depends really, and people die because we aren't meant to live forever..
Our aging process takes away all the chance of our living forever, and plus all of our organs can only last so long
