Is there any medical reasons not to run in high heels?

Question:
I have been doing this for years.dince I first wore heels and learned to walk in them. It's not really that hard, you just stay up on your toes so the heel doesn't even hit the ground. I can run fast that way, almost as fast as I can without the heels on. But I have heard it's not a good thing to do? Does anyone know if there are any good reasons not to run in heels? Not that I do it all the time, but if I am late for something or trying to catch a bus, it's only natural to run.

Answers:
The only medical reason I would think that may arrise is possibly because it's bad for your back to not run properly supported. I think? Other than that I would just say it more a safety issue than anything else, I would hate to bust my asssss running in a pair of heels. You know, you may be on to something here, maybe that should become a professional sport among the business and corporate world where women wear heels. I can see it, the championship trophy would be shaped like a heel and you would get a like life time supply of heels.

That would be coool.

Other Answers:
It puts strain on your ankles.

Other than risking a sprained or twisted ankle, I've heard that wearing heels or doing anything strenous in them could lead to back problems. Only if you fall & break a leg will medical reasons become obvious.

so you don't break your ankles!

In a pinch it's OK, but it throws the back out of alignment because of the lift. Also, since you are not landing on the foot flat, you concentrate a lot of force and pressure on the ball of your foot instead of the distributing it over the full surface.

Also, considering what little surface area is on the heel, to could turn and ankle and down you go.

Running with high heels can cause the following medical problems: 1. broken arm from tripping or loosing solid footing.
2. broken neck
3. broken neck and various appendages
4. broken neck and death
5. broken neck, various appendages and death.

Most of those would mean a trip to the doctor :)

from a podiatry point of view high heels do tend to be a bit bad in the long term for toe space and can contribute to bunions and other bone alignment problems and running will put more stress on this part of your body Yeah, its bad to wear high heels. I am practising yoga for the past 3 years, and my yoga guru always advises us not to wear high heeals at all. Thats because high heels directly put load on your lumber, that is your lower back. This will cause long term back problems like compression in the lumber, unable to completely bend forward, pain in lumber, and many other spinal chord problems. So its my advise to you Please donot wear high heels.
