Can you get sunburned on a cloudy day?

Question:
One of my friends said yes, one said no, and somebody awhile back even told me you can get burned worse when it's cloudy.so which is it? Does it depend on how cloudy it is?

Answers:
Clouds offer little protection. You can get a bad sunburn on a cloudy day. Even sunlight reflected from snow, water, sand, or bright clothing can give you a burn.

Other Answers:
Yes you can indeed. It depends on how long you stay outside and whether or not you use sunscreen. You STILL get some UV radiation from the sun, even though there's a cloud layer.

YES, My dad didn't think so and he ended up getting skin cancer, because he wasn't wearing a shirt and didn't put any sunscreen on. beacause the sun radiation that burns the skin can readily penetrate clouds.

Yes

Of course! It's the UV that burns you, not the visible spectrum.

yes of course.you can get sunburned any day of the year! Even in the snow. Yes and yes. You can get burnt on a cloudy day, and the amount of time it takes to get a sunburn can vary according to the cloud cover.

Yes you can. UV rays (the ones that burn your skin) are not blocked by clouds, just sunblock!

yes actually one of my worst sunburns it was a windy and cloudy day so i didnt use sunscreen big mistake. Most definately. Clouds do not block UV rays. That's what burns our skin.

Yes you can. The av rays easily penatrate the clouds. I learned it in fourth grade.

You can get a sunburn on a cloudy day; UV rays are energetic enough to punch through clouds. It won't be as severe (or it will take a good while) but it can happen.
The 'worse burn' thing is probably because you don't realize that there is still UV radiation out there, so you stay in the open longer.

Depending on how cloudy it is, it is possible to get sunburned on a cloudy day. And possibly worse than on a sunny one because people won't be thinking of the sun. Yes you can get sun burned on a cloudy day.
I think it can be worse because it isn't hot you don't protect yourself.

Wisconsin Med College had this to say:
"The longer wavelengths of UVB and UVA pass right through the atmosphere, even on a cloudy day. That's why you can still get sunburned on a cloudy or hazy day."

yes there are still uv rays that seep through the clouds
