diabtes question?

Question:
i have a friend that just called me and said he was in the hospital for a day or so.. he hadn't been feeling well at all and they told him he is a diabetic. He is a 24 year old african american male that weighs close to 280lbs. His blood sugar was 326 when he was in the hospital. They have him a pill to take in the morning and told him he didn't need insulin. He is very scared because he still does not feel right. I told him to give the pill a few days to kick in before running back to the hospital, but i'm not sure that was the right thing to tell him. PLEASE ONLY SERIOUS FEEDBACK..

Answers:
The pills DO take awhile to work. Sometimes they have to add multiple pills together to get an effect. I was diagnosed just 1 year ago and they put me on pills too. After a couple of weeks, the pills just weren't working and I basically demanded a referral to an Endocrinolgist. I saw him the same day. I told him I was at the end of my rope, that I needed something that would WORK and NOW. He put me on insulin shots right away and they worked right away. I started feeling SO MUCH BETTER. Now I take both -the pills and the shots, and I have my sugar under pretty good control.

no

You need Insulin Everday to keep working. The pill seems to not be helping if he is like that. Maybe going back is best for him. If his sugar is still high,he could be still feeling bad,and it could also be the pill affecting it,takes awhile to adjust to new meds. Tell him to visit the american diabetes association's website
