I was a six month premature baby weighing 11/2 is that the cause of my slow learning and difficulty in school?

Question:
I always felt a little different than any other person around me with the same age, i was always the shortest of everyone, and have had some difficulty with my body. One of my foot tendons isn't well stretched which doesn't allow it to grow as my other one. I have one foot one inch smaller than the other one and when i walk too much my foot along with my hip begans to bug me.

Answers:
Forty percent of premature infants later have significant learning disabilities so, yes, this could definitely be the cause.

If that's the case, then you're probably already an "identified" student who is getting extra help. Keep at it. Latch on to teachers who you understand better or who can teach using a style that suits you better.

When you get through school, you'll be just another person who enters the world with their own specific bag of talents and troubles.

I don't think its connected, there are millions of premature babies born and grow up to be healthy individual and you'd never guess they were. Talk to your GP for reassurance
I'm sure you did everything that you should do while you were pregnant. Consider talking to a doctor that specalizes in Genetics.
u could be tested for it. maybe u have a learning problem but to be honest by your letter you seemed smart. smarted then some that answered your question...lol you said you was a six month premature baby weighing 11/2 not a person that gave birth..lol if you feel you need the help in school then ask. keep your chin up sounds like you done went through alot and made out ok so far
Its possible. It could be that your body didn't have the time it needed to full form as it should have inside the womb.

But *please* don't let this get you down. You can still succeed in life.

Remember, God loves you just as you are. God Bless...
There was an article in the paper the other day about prem babies and lack of concentration in school. http://www.guardian.co.uk/medicine/story/0,,1838260,00.html
Just because you were a bit slow to learn does not mean there was something wrong with you. As someone has just said you put your question quite well. You may have just needed a little bit of extra help to concentrate on the work in hand and to have it taught to you in a way that made sense.
As to the physical side it sounds as though you may have mild cerebaal palsy caused by being premature. Were you never refered to a physiotherapist? If not it may not be too late.
Why not visit Bliss website, the premature baby charity. www.bliss.org.uk They have alot of info about prematurity, you may find the answers you are looking for there.
Good luck.
