virus??????

Question:
A week ago I contracted an illness with the symptoms of a virus. I thought it was probably mono, since I suddenly felt the need to sleep for at least 10 hours a night as well as napping during the day. Also, I've been feeling very sluggish and weak, and my appetite has been gone. I finally went to the health clinic, who told me that even though I have most of the symptoms of mono, since I don't have a sore throat, it must be something else, and she thought it would go away after a few days.

Is there some way the clinic could test me for other viruses?

Answers:
Did they test you for mono? There is a mono test out there and sometimes it comes back negative if you got sick very recently. When I had mono they first test was negative then 2 weeks later it came back positive when they did it again.
hepatitis b or c. (c is now more common) the side effects vary from person to person. when i was in 6th grade the doc thought it was mono, but it wasn't until many years later i was diagnosed with hcv.

good luck. (alt and ast levels appear normal in a standard blood lab liver panel, have them check for antibodies).
Here is the cool thing about viruses they are to small to see. Do you know how many different mono viruses there are? To many to count. There is no test you can take to found out what kind of virus it is. Doctors are able to generally pin it down by the symptoms, but that is just a guess. They could run a white blood count, to see if it is high, but thats abou it.
