I’ve included links below to a free clinic directory, the Bureau of Primary Health Care that can help you locate country and state health departments, and a page listing Medicaid state sites. Health insurance is usually less expensive as part of group health plan, so you should try and find work that will help you pay for health insurance. I’ve also included links to Needy Meds and Partnership for Prescription Assistance, both of which have information on how to get financial assistance in buying prescription medication. Needy Meds also has information medical assistance programs categorized by state, federal, private, and disease/condition.

If you want to buy private insurance, be careful when you examine price. The lowest priced plan is not always the least expensive.

Basically, health plans differ in three basic ways:

•monthly price/annual deductible
•access to health care (the degree to which you can visit whom you like and undergo medical treatment a specialist thinks you need)
•financial strength of the insurance company

Also, the price of a plan is not simply the premium you pay each month. You also have to consider the annual deductible, as well as any coinsurance amounts or copayments. Additionally, the savings you can achieve through an HMO, PPO, or other managed care plan can be erased if you have to go outside the network for expensive medical care. I’ve included links to two articles that do a good job of walking you through making the best possible choice in health insurance you can afford that still provides the coverage you need.

Visit MostChoice.com when you’re ready to research specific plans available near you. You can look up free insurance rates and talk with more than one local insurance agent. There’s no cost or obligation to buy anything from anyone, and you might be surprised to find that insurance is more affordable than you think. Some plans are $60 a month and include preventive care such as routine doctor visits.
