I want to be a surgeon when I grow up, but..?

Question:

I don't know how to not get grossed out by cutting people open, and blood, and things like that. My mom says when I go through surgery school I'll probably feel better and it will just feel natural. What do you suggest I do?

the best doctors in the world ..were once those who vomitted in their early surgery classes. ur mom is right ,as time passes u'll feel the human body is as simple as a vegetable...i have many doctor friends who just felt like u...dont worry.its natural and every one goes through it...good luck..go for it!

You can always pick a different specialty while in med school if surgery grosses you out too much.

You get exposed to stuff in medical school and you learn to deal with it, or you drop out.

A high school biology course might have some elements of that in disecting animals.

Thre is a lot of school you need to do before medical school. If you think thats what you want to do then start down that path.

you'll probably get used to it. when you're doing so much cutting and slicing of people's parts... i don't think you'll feel too grossed out anymore. you'll be so used in seeing blood and body parts, not to mention, internal body organs
