I'm 21 and I have had tinnitus for five years and I just live with it. At night when it's the loudest I just higher my tv up and sleep with it on or sleep with some music on. But most of the time I don't even remember it's there but it's pretty loud. I get a sizzling sound and my computer tower and other noises from the day drowns it out along with just not focusing on it.
I'm older but had it forever..

It only bother's me when it's the surroundings are quiet. So at night I need a fan to run in order to sleep, or else the ringing is bothersome. In most environments like work, it doesn't bother me at all, like everything else, you get used to it.

Car Nut,

How can you become "Depressed" after being "Diagnosed" with it?

Tinnitus is something you KNOW you have PRIOR to diagnosis or else there would have been NO reason to seek treatment. If you ears ring for long periods of time for no acute reason it VERY likely tinnitus. Chances are VERY likely it's as a result of something you did to begin with, loud music, noisey work environment, shooting guns without ear protection etc...

What's to be depressed about? People HAVE to take responsibility...typical Liberal world..don't like something, find a pill! Good Lord!!
I'm a little older than 35,so hope you don't mind my reply.
I was diagnosed with tinnitus at age 26.
As far as the question of coping with it on a daily basis.that's a tough one to explain . There was a long period of time that I was depressed after being diagnosed.
I just thought about it way too much. Finally my Doctor put me on a anti-anxiety med. called Lorazepam (2mg.)
It helps me quite a bit . I don't get any anxiety attacks , and it helps keep my mind off of the tinnitus condition.
Hope this helps you some! :)
I am much older than 35 and have had it for years. I have tried to find out all I could about it the WHY's of it but no luck. I went to ear Specilaist and nothing can be done. My is caused from a upper tone hearing loss. At night, it seems the worst as the environment is quiet. I would suggest that visitng with your Dr. and the nights that you can't stand the noise he would give you a prescription for some medicine.
