How long should a person stop taking aspiin, prior to major abdominal surgury ?

Question:
im taking 325mg a day

Answers:
usually one week before. that is how long it takes for the platelets to renew in our body and aspirin "deactivates" those platelets (what helps our blood clot).

btw, stopping aspirin for surgery has nothing to do with the lining in your belly as the person below me said. you want to stop the aspirin so that you don't bleed easily during and right after surgery. your body needs a week to renew the platelets.
my guess is at least 3 or 4 days maybe weeks cuz aspin wears down the lineing in your belly! when it doubt call your dr. maybe asap!
Our surgeons say 5 days before surgery. They want your blood thick enough and able to clot, before they cut, so you will not bleed to death.
