Gastric bypass?
Question:
Answers:
Unlike the people who posted and DO NOT have firsthand knowledge I however do!
I had gastric bypass surgery on June 5 of this year and it is THE BEST decision I have made in my life.
I've lost 42 pounds to date, I have more energy, I feel so much better and my type 2 diabetes is undercontrol I get to quit my medication in another month!!
Yes, some people have complications but that is a risk with ANY surgery. Yes, some people have died again it happens with ANY surgery.
As for the person who went about describing your internal organs -- I know they ARE NOT a doctor!! Someone who works with vitamins is NOT a doctor.
Researching a great baratric surgeon is essential. My surgeon was Dr Mitchel Roslin here in NYC and he was and is AMAZING!!
I had NO complications and was back to work within 12 days of surgery.
I would recommend a website, www.obesityhelp.com. It is a great tool in finding surgeons, support & fellow humans who have been where you are.
ALL THE BEST!! And PLEASE don't listen to those who have not been through weightloss surgery.
My opinion is that it's a very harsh and expensive thing that has more trouble than it's worth.
The facts I've learned about it is that it's a very risky surgery that should ONLY be used as a last resort. Quite literally, you remove your stomach (or at least most of it) from your digestive tract, so you would not be able to digest your food as much, which lowers your intake and you get fuller faster. To many overweight people who have "tried everything", this may seem like a great idea, but by starving yourself (which is what ends up happening when you can't absorb the nutrients from your food) is dangerous and can make you dangerously under-nourished.
The worst part is that most of these surgeries are not reversible, so once you've lost the weight, you can't go "back to normal" and eat a healthy diet. you also can't use most supplements to get your nutrition because most supplements have to digest in your stomach (which is lacking after the surgery). You'll essentially starve yourself for the rest of your life unless you're lucky enough to expand what's left of your stomach slowly by eating more than you safely should (which again, is a VERY bad idea).
My daughters step mother of 17 yrs had the Lap band procedure on Oct.12th. On Oct.16th she died of complications. She was 42. My brother who is an ER doctor lost a nurse at the hospital where he works after a bypass. He said and I quote" when she opened her mouth it was like someone was hold a garden hose and it was spewing blood". She had a son that was 4yrs old. She begged them to save her. She died on the helicopter trip to a trauma center. She was 34. Loosing weight is great but is not worth dying for. Join weight watchers and do it the right way. It may take longer but it is sooo worth it.. I know I have lost 75 lbs and have 75lbs to go.. Good luck.
