Can a slug actually harm you in anyway?

LOL... okay, so my dad went on a slug research binge a while back, so I'm going to give you a serious answer - hope that's okay :P
The weird thing about slugs is their slime - which comes out a lot if they're stressed in any (ie you lick or step on one) but it's always on their skin. Slug slime, apparently, can absorb anywhere from 100 to 300 times its volume in water - it's being researched now, because it's so unique, for medical uses. I think this would make eating one raw probably not a good idea (if its absorbing all the moisture in your stomach...)
I don't know - have you ever stepped on a slug in bare feet? I have, loads of times, and I can tell you it's BIZARRE. You can go in and scrub and scrub... and it stays slimy. Through showers and baths and walking around barefoot and everything - usually I just waited a few weeks until the slimy patch wore off (I'm thinking with my skin). The most miniscule trace of slug slime just kept picking up water and keeping the patch of slime going... it's weird.
I think that's why it makes your tongue tingle too (if you lick one) - because it's pulling up all the moisture. Not sure though.
They do eat your tomatoes, though. I guess that's one reason to kill them! We just chuck them back in the woods - salting them seems cruel, and it's just so GROSS.
I wouldn't eat one.
Slugs don't hurt you, but if you hav a garden they can do your plants a lot of harm. Otherwise, why kill them?
Absolutely. A 12 gauge slug has caused a great many deaths.
sure I like .45 slugs, they rip through stuff goooooood. If you're talking about the garden vareiety, then no, they do sort of pinch you though when moving across your arm or something.
Yes we can justify killing them!! They are gross and ugly and leave slime all over the place, they would ruin our garden if I didn't kill them. As long as they stay the hell away from me then I'm fine. Otherwise they're dead. Oh and Frank, you spelled "with" wrong.... have a nice day.
