Anesthesia??scared?

Question:
im 14, and having surgery done on my lower spine(i forget the name of it, its really long. since one of my lower vertabrae is slipping past another one, their going to have to place a rod to hold them together). anyways, im not that scared about the surgery(one of my friends had the same one, she did fine, and told me all about it) im more scared about the anesthesia. i am going to have to be given general anesthesia, but i have heard so many scary things about it. is it true that u dont breathe on your own(u have to have tubes down to ur stomach)? how does it feel? what if i dont wake up?or wake up during the operation? are their any reactoins that might happen? Also, im very healthy according to my doctor. i dont have diabites, im not overweight, and im not allergic to anything. But, im just scared since this is my first surgery ever! please help!!

Don't worry, I'm 16 and had surgery earlier this year. the docters will give you some medicine before hand that will calm you down, if you get the sedative you'll be wheeled into the operation room(you probably won't be able to walk, even if you feel you can) they lay you down on a table and place a mask over your mouth, the second you breath in you get loopy, your unable to move anything cept your head but it won't bother you, then they'll give you the full anesthetic and you wake up a few hours, you probably won't remember anything about being in the hospital. for the next 24-72 hours you'll be out of it and depending on the surgery it could take a while to recover. your not going ot wake up during the surgery and yes you will wake up. don't worry about it(I actually liked it, before I blacked out I was so loopy I actually laughed when they put the IV in, I still felt the pain but for some reason it was funny.
Ive had 4 surgerys on my ears and one on my left knee. You really have nothing to worry about.Since your healthy you should wake up.One time I scared my mom scared to death because it took me an hour to wake up.A day after you surgery your body will feel weak because the anesthesia is leaving your body. Also some anesthesia taste and smell bad. For all five of my surgerys Ive had all of them smell and taste bad.And no you do not have tubes going through your stomach. There have been very little cases where patients wake up through the operation.Anesthesia doesnt feel like anything it puts you to sleep and when you wake up you might not even remember falling asleep. The only part of your answer I cant answer is wether or not you have reactions.
Good luck on your surgery.
general anaesthesia is really cool! You have a tube in your oesophagus to assist your breathing. Its put in after you are asleep and taken out before you are asleep, so you will never know its been there. the worst thing that may happen is that you may have a sore throat.

During your surgery the anaesthesiologist keeps you to sleep with drugs and monitors your condition constantly. you will never be left alone. If you develop problems while you are asleep they are right there to take care of the issue.

I have worked in surgery for over 15 years and haven't yet had anyone that was healthy not wake up or have any lasting problems from their anaesthesia.

I think you will do just fine. good luck
don't worry you will be fine.you will not wake up during the procedure there is not a tube down to your stomach. you will be fine and before they even take you back there they will give you meds. in you iv that makes you relax so you will not be nervous and scared good luck on your surgey and i hope you have a quick recovery
The tube goes into your trachea. If it goes into your espohagus, your stomach will be ventilated and not your lungs, and that won't work!

If you're healthy, you'll do fine. Anesthesiologists do this all day, every day. You won't wake up during the surgery, but you will wake up when it's done. Yes, there are risks with anesthesia, but YOUR risk is related to how sick you are when you come in. If you're healthy, you're at low risk.
