For a new piercing, can you wear a clear retainer instead of the metal jewelry while it is healing?

Question:
I can't have visible piercings where I work, so I would have to wear retainers instead. But, someone told me plastic retainers aren't advisable when healing.

Answers:
You can wear a glass or quartz retainer, they sell them on www.bmezine.com (you have to click on bme/shop) or glass wear studios. You can also go to a reputable piercing shop (or to your piercer) and they should be able to get one for you. Glass and quartz retainers are not dangerous for initial piercings, jut make sure it's from a reputable company.
There are some that it is not advisable to wear. Be careful.
