Does protein powder like muscle tech have side effects?
Question:
Answers:
Watch the Protein
To quickly determine your daily protein in grams, divide your weight in pounds by 2. Too much daily protein may cause hepatic encephalopathy (mental confusion). This occurs when the amount of dietary protein is greater than the liver's ability to use the protein. This causes a build up of toxins that can interfere with brain function. Protein is restricted in patients with clinical evidence of encephalopathy. However, controversy exists regarding the type of protein a diet should contain. Vegetable and dairy protein may be tolerated better than meat protein. Medications, such as lactoses and neomycin, may be used to help control hepatitis-related encephalopathy. Due to the body's need for proteins, protein restriction should only be undertaken with a doctor's advice.
Generally there are no side effects to protein supplements. As they are the amino acids that help build muscles and are found in abundant supply in many natural food sources, they are pretty safe. Even if you take more than your body can absorb you will simply pass it out. It could give you a bit of gut rot or sore throat if you have any allergies to Whey or Soy, the two main components in over the counter protien supplements.
Personally I have a fast metablolism and didnt see much results from the powdered shakes. I was drinking up to four a day with out much change. Then I tried the protein bars and they seem to work better, they do not get digested as quickly and stay in the stomach a bit longer. In order to gain weight you also want to be taking at least 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. This includes food sources as well.
