Help!! What is causing my kids to keep getting sick?

Question:
I have a 3 year old daughter and a 1 year son. For the past few weeks they have been getting sick on and off. Their symptoms are vomiting and diarrea, and never with a fever. It has been my son who has been sick the most and he has been tested for food allergies, paracites and a bacterial infection. We thought it might be the vitamins they were taking because they starting getting sick right around the time they starting taking them. Neither of them have had the the vitamins for days now and my son woke up last night vomiting and having diarrea again. I have noticed that they seem to get sick in the middle of the night. As far as things they eat, I usually eat pretty much they same things they do. I can't think of a common thing that they have ate the day before an episode. I am starting to consider environmental causes, like something in their room, etc. Any ideas? Please help.

Okay first start with what it isn't. It isnt anything you are also in contact with or you would be sick too. Look at "child related" stuff including food and drink.

Here are some idea's but I stress you get some professional help A.S.A.P.

Check house and surroundings for "Mold" exposure
Check toothpaste (chinese recall with bad chemicals)
Check drinking water-Toxicity in pipes etc.
Check Heater/Airconditioner for carbon monoxide
Discontinue vitamins- possible bad chemicals also vitamin overdose.
Check all materials and chemicals that are "skin related" exposure threats. Soaps, clothes, washing water etc.
Look for dioxin's, heavy metal, chemical exposure sources and eliminate them. No thermometers etc (mercury)

Last if all else fails GET THEM OUT. Move them completely away from the house to a new location.

Think and look for contamination: Bad air, water/moisture, dry/dust, skin exposure, breathing exposure, food/water intake exposure, dirty, plastics, chemicals. Make sure daddy isn't coming home with chemicals and hugging them onto the kids.

My step daughter had the same lingering symptoms. She had a rotovirus. The correct antibiotics cleared it right up.
Sounds like they're being exposed to some type of toxin. Have you recently introduced any:
new carpet
cleaners
air fresheners
paint
bedding
medications
My guess is that is indeed environmental but it could be a virus. There are many different gastro intestinal bacterial infections that could be the culprit as well. Maybe this requires further testing and medication. I would continue taking them to the pediatrician and if their doctor isn't thorough enough, try a new doctor.
has there been water damage anywhere? maybe there is mold in your house that makes your kids sick.
Your concern for your kids is understandable. I have a 3-year old son and for the past one and a half months he has constantly been unwell. Kind of throat infection, cough, cold, ear pain etc..The reason is that he is started going to a pre-nursery school where he catches these infections. Apart from that it may also be the general weather conditions that may also be a factor. So in your case if your daughter goes to a school/playhome, there are chances that she may have caught some infections from there and that inturn has affected your son. Well what can be said, its all a part of growing up.
Adding to what Jdiddy said, you should also check your house/bedrooms for mold. There are recorded cases about mold causing flu like symptoms, and have even gone further causing much larger problems, some effecing the heart and brain.
I would see a gastrointerologist - these people solely deal with digestive systems from esophigus to the anus. They know more about what could be causing these viruses. Your son may be cutting his molars too. My son had the same symtoms when he started getting his back teeth. My daughter had cronic ear infections and fever. But, since it is in both children I would definately see a gastrointerologist asap and look at your sons back teeth as well. If he only wants soft foods periodically through out the day instead more at meal time I would consider molars coming in and to see a dentist as well. Hope everyone feels better soon.
