Nurses? How do I deal with perverts?
I was sent to a community hospital a couple of months after I got my CPR licensure. While I was performing CPR on a patient who had just collapsed during an emergency,I heard somebody remarked, 'She's turning on the patient.Look at her boobs,it's right on the dude's face'.I just got distracted.I have come across a lot of patients who does not behave appropriately especially when it comes to genitilia care and inserting of condom catheter but a male nurse who actually notices your boobs during an emergency?

I have been around a long time. I started in the nursing field when I was 17, and got my cna when I was still in high school and was doing full nursing at 18. I remained in the health care field for the rest of my working years. Even last year I was in the health care field moving from nursing into caring for the social skills of elderly in assisted living. Trust me at one time I was worth looking at, and I got my fair share of the ignorant statements you talk about.
When I was just starting out ( 17) it was really bad. I heard family members (men) talk about my body parts as if I wasn't even in the room. And I had patients pinch my butt, slap my butt, and cop a feel of my breast while I was transferring them into wheelchairs. NO joke, I almost decided at that young age that I did not want to work in the nursing field at all. That changed when I worked with a military nurse and she told me to be blunt and funny. I was...it worked! Those comments never bothered me anymore. As a matter of fact as I got older I could laugh and tell stories of funny incidents that had happened at work. When I started working on a journal I wrote some thoughts down about those years. Just for fun I'll share a little humor with you,
I hope you realize that what you do is very important. You have chosen an excellant field of work and you will be even more proud one day when you look back and see the difference you made in someone else's life.
Nurse Humor
When I was younger a man harrassed me all the time with sexual comments and one day I told Ms.Martha and she said you're gonna have to get tough and find something to say that will make light of the situation. One day during a sponge bath an older man asked me if I got excited looking at him, and I told him " I've seen enough of these things to make a railroad track from here to California and back , and I wouldn't dock at any of the train stations." This time it was HIS face that turned red.
When I was younger I can recall how a slap on the "fanny" use to make my blood run cold...now it serves as a reminder of how " cute " I use to be, because no one does that anymore.
When I was younger every call light went off at bathtime, I never saw so many "Helpless" men need help with thier bath. Now all my patients insists that they can "Do it themselves", If I were younger they'd be "Helpless".
When I was young every old man wanted me to put my arms around him and help him from the bed to the chair, Now I know I am " OLD " because they insist on a male orderly.
You know you're " OLD " when you bend over to make up a bed and the patient chooses to watch re-runs of the Andy Griffith show.
Boy, come to think of it ...maybe those were the good ole days...I haven't been sexually harrassed in years.
How can I give a hand a co-worker who have a black eye?
You can't do anything about the patients. Just act profesional and dress professional.
If a coworker is behaving inappropriately, there are definite actions you can take. If you know the guy, confront him directly. Tell him you heard what he was saying during the code, and it was incredibly inappropriate. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, tell your supervisor.
Can a person have their belly button removed?
Get brave and get smart. obviously don't hurt anyone but, get respect, You may have to come up with some good comebacks and smart **** comments of your own.
You have to stand up for yourself and don't let things like this go through your head-you don't want your patient to die because of this. Be aware that there are millions of perverts out there. It's how you react to these situations that matter-just be smart and keep yourself cool.
My daughter is coughing so doomed to failure when she lays down, she vomits. what can I do?
Hello,
I've been a nurse for 30 years! Back in the day I used to get alot of that garbage. My best advice to you is to confront them w/their behavior and tell them to knock it off. You are allowed to defend yourself. If all else fails, tell your supervisor and refuse to go anywhere near that person. You do have a right to refuse. Good luck!...Leslie
I yawn .you yawn ..my cat yawns .my dog yawns ... Do insects yawn ?
if it is coming from a patient, just be firm with them and make them know that this is not appropriate. if from a co-worker, i would first let them know that you don't like it, and then talk to the supervisor if it continues.
Does a larger muzzle = more snot?
you need to be professional about this, ignore the obscene comments, you are trying to save people's lives. if you can't focus on what you are doing, you could do something wrong.
What to do for a sore back and feet..! Any remedies?!?
Tell them to go away, men get over excited about sexual things, this is usually because they are bored. Tell them that they are perverts and that it is none of their business what your breasts look like.
