Stomach Flu? Or Food Poisoning. Or?! [HELP]?
Question:
Yesterday me & my mom ordered a sausage pizza, from one of local pizzerias [Domino's]. My mom started feeling nauseous after eating a few slices, but I didn't. I don't know how, but soon she stopped complaining, and moved on with her life. I didn't get sick from the pizza, or at least didn't feel it. Around 10pm-11pm I started feeling nauseous and sorta dizzy. I told my mom i felt woozy, and she told me to go to bed and try to relax. Then I started getting stomach cramps [not strong ones, really mild, simply discomfort] and shivers [mostly in my arms] I tried keeping myself warm with a bedsheet and a small blanket. I didn't get much sleep last night, but today when I woke up, I felt really weak, and I felt really dizzy when i got up from bed. I felt strongly nauseous, and felt like my stomach was burning [heartburn?] so I took TUMS. They helped with the heartburn, and nausea a bit. But I'm really worried it's something serious. PLEASE HELP!
Answers:
It's probably food poisoning for you. Your mom getting nauseous after only a few slices probably doesn't have anything to do with it because food poisoning takes 2-4 hours to hit. The dough might not have been cooked throughly enough, but most likely it could be a problem with the sausage. I work in a pizza resturant (not Dominos) as a manager and when recieving a food shipment, occasionally the guy that unloads our suff will try to sneak freeze burned or other bad products through. The biggest problem I've had is that sometimes the trucks break down and the back storage area which is supposed to be a freezer will also shut down. So everything in the back will thaw and when the the truck starts again everything in the back will be frozen. It's incredibly dangerous and most stores have a manager check off everything and inspect it to make sure that that doesn't happen. Unfortunately, not every store does that. I would go to the doctor and see if it is food poisoning. If so, get a note from the doc and physically go into the store and speak to the store manager directly. Ask to see their daily temperture checks, which is a binder/folder with a chart of various places and their tempertures. All thempertures needed to be recorded twice daily. Anything frozen needs to be under 41 degrees and anything hot needs to be over 140. In CA at least, it's required by law to have this binder and you will automatically fail your health dept. inspection if you fail to do so. Also, ask to see their last 2 or 3 health dept. inspections. It's also required by law that they provide them for any customer that asks, so don't listen if they tell you otherwise. If everything is in order and the resturant is clean, I would keep an eye on the place to make sure the manager is correcting whatever caused your illness. If they don't keep track of their temps, furnish their health dept. forms upon request or the resturant isn't clean contact the health dept. and let them deal with it. As a manager, I do everything in my power to avoid a foodbourne illness, but it has happened once in 2 years and it was actually right before the veggie got recalled (spinach). I know it seems like a lot of trouble and it's easier to just contact the health dept. but that can be a HUGE issue and you can cause the resturant A LOT of damage for something that very well may have been an accident. As long as everything is clean and forms are in order, please give them a chance before turning them in.
