Please do not be scared. He will just ask you alot of personal questions. After a few visits you will get to know him and feel comfortable with him. I keep saying him, because I have a psyciatrist that I talk to on and off, and I love him. He is like my best friend. You will be able to talk openly with him and feel comfortable. By you talking, it will make your depression go away after a while, I always feel great when I come out of his office. Good luck to you.
They will ask questions like, how is your relaionship with people, what do you think about on a daily basis. Do you ever think about hurting yourself. It varies from time to time.
In my opinion, I think therapists are useless. But for a depression they may be helpful. Therapists tend to open you up with different questions. Questions that you wouldn't think the therapist would ask. I bet he/she will try to be your friend first, so don't worry too much.
They will ask "core" questions as mentioned before. (I just had my first one last week) Maybe have you fill out a few questinaires to figure out WHY you are depressed, and then they will work on issues brought out by questions. It wasn't that bad. I felt awkward at first but then felt better.
In the end, if you aren't willing to tell them everything (don't worry they can't repeat anything you tell them!) then it won't work. So only you can tell if it will work by how honest you will be with a stranger. It's better once you meet and get a feel for each other.
They do not judge or critisize you.
