Why does our skin really itch?

Question:

Answers:
One of the worst culprits of itching is dermatitis, a skin condition caused by anything from laundry detergent to gold that can irritate the skin. In the United States, 6.4 million people with dermatitis scratch their way to the dermatologist's office each year, according to a National Ambulatory Medical Care.
Slight irritations of a nerve
Mine doesn't. You should go see a doctor for that...
Ouch! Vague but depends, usually some sort of irritation. This is in response to something that your body wants to get rid of. The nerves become sensitive and ellicits a response to "itch". A mosquito (sp?) bite itch is due to the release of a chemical in the bug to keep your blood from clotting. Could be just sensitve to stimulation of the skin which causes the nerves to give you the "itch" signal.
