What happened to me?

Question:
I recently took a trip to Denver that got totally ruined. I was SO excited about getting out of H-town for a week. I had been under some stress but no more than usual. To make a long story short I got sick immediately after unpacking all my bags in my hotel room. It started as a mild case of diarhea & later devloped into svere diarhea & nausea/vomiting. It wasn't food poisoning b/c all I ate that day were airplane peanuts, crackers & pretzels. Then I drank one beer @ the airport while waiting for my shuttle bus but only ONE & I didn't even finish it. I spent all 5 days laid up in bed in a Denver Hotel & only left to go eat @ the nearest restaurant which was DENNY'S (YUCK) or to the lobby for their continental breakfast. My mom said it was ALL stress b/c of the trip & excite ment & it was "manifesting" itself. But I haven't been sick to my stomach like that in a long time. Not to mention I got malnourished & dehydreted from wretching. :(

Answers:
It's possible that you might have gotten a norovirus, the kind that are common to cruiseships. You might have caught it from the airport/airplane, or any number of public places. The norovirus can keep you in bed with the shidoobies for 3-5 days and leave you feeling very weak.
The norovirus is very contagious...it should have spread to others in your group unless they had very good immune systems (and got plenty of sleep).
I am so sorry for you!
It seems that your mom is right. I too get traveller's diarrhoea even after taking all hygienic precautions and eating very little. I think symptomatic treatment like antispasmodics for pain, antiemetics and plenty of fluids should be able to take care of that (it is usually working for me) but remaining sick for 5 days is too much. Better luck next time!
Sounds like you caught a stomach virus on the plane or sometime before you left and it hit you 'right' at the 'wrong' time.
Or maybe the altitude affected you but that usually involves headaches and low energy more than stomach problems.

I heard that airplanes get cleaned thoroughly only about once a month (more cost-cutting) and it is a good idea to take antiseptic wipes with you for the chairs, headrests, etc...

I am sorry you had such a bad trip here (I live in Denver) and hope you are feeling better now
You probably caught a flu bug that was going around. Airplanes are havens for bacteria. You did get the most important thing you needed--rest. Hope you're feeling better now.
I know what happened-Charlie sheen tried to kill you!
