875 mg Amoxicillin?

Question:
Can the tablets be broken in half? I dont really want to take (1) such a large pill, and (2) this strong a dose for a simple sore throat...plus I've had reactions to nonpenicillin antibiotics in large doses but never in smaller ones, like 500mg. Anyone know?

Answers:
Yes, if they are the large oblong pills you can break in half. This medication is to treat only bacterial infections like common cold, flu etc. If your sore throat could be associated with something else not related you may want to take something else.
Also you said NON PENICILLIN antibiotics,if you meant you are to penicillin drugs be careful and just know you may be affected by any dosage that contains the cillins!
HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER!
Always take prescription medications exactly as prescribed. If you have questions, your pharmacist would be happy to answer them by phone, so don't hesitate to call the pharmacy.

Good luck!
Amoxicillin is related to penicilliin. If you have reactions to large doses, you will soon have reactions to small doses (your sensitivity increases each time you use it).

I would shy away from taking amoxicillin for a sore throat unless I knew for certain I had STREP. Antibiotics can and do give yeast infections to women, and that is something that I would prefer to avoid at any cost! Never take them unless it is absoloutely necessary.

Otherwise, gargle with hot salt water, drink plenty of fluids and rest, it will be better in a day or two.

Good luck!
Yes, as long as they aren't the coated caplets (with powdered medication on the inside), you should be fine. You may notice a little nasty taste but it doesn't mean anything. If the doctor has prescribed it for you, take that large of a dose.
they can only be broken if they have a line in the middle of the tablet(called scored), if not try putting it in applesauce and swallow, or any other kind of food
breaking may cause the pill to not be as affective as they are suppose to be
