Perhaps you are addicted to the caffeine in the pop. (Do you drink the caffeine-containing pops?) You could try weaning yourself off gradually. If you're not drinking it for the caffeine, try subsituting some juice with plain soda water (tastes like pop, but it's healthier). Keep cutting back on the amount of soda water you mix with the juice, until you've weaned yourself off pop altogether.) Then just trying drinking ice water if you need a cold drink. --- Char
It's called "withdrawal." YOu get pretty much the same effect when you stop smoking, drinking, whatever. The thing you have to do about it is to SLOW DOWN before you STOP. don't just go cold turkey. if you want to really stop, then just cut down little by little.
I gave up soda for my New Years Resolution. So I know exactly how you feel. If you can get past the headaches, you're pretty much over the rough spot. I substituted soda with flavored water, Gatorade, and Yogurt drinks. Now if I even take a drink of soda, the sugar in it seems overwhelming to me! Also try munching on ice chips. I also lost 13 pounds after I gave up the soda!! I hope you can stick it out!! Good luck my friend!!
Go through the withdraw and get it over with or find another form of caffeine to stop the headaches. Good for you on stopping the soda, that stuff is really bad for your health. Try replacing your regular soda with ice water to go healthy. If you need more try Crystal Light. They have some good flavors.
Where I live (in Georgia) we drink a lot of sweet tea. You get the caffeine, a little sugar and the tannic acid in tea is good for you.
Recipe for southern tea, one gallon.
Four family sized tea bags or eight regular size. Boil in a pot of water for about 4 minutes. Add 1 &1/2 cups of sugar to tea.(minus the bags) Stir until sugar melts then add water to fill the gallon. Refrigerate. Yummy southern tea, now I just need some grits.
replace them with juice boxes and water. you should also go check at the doctar because you might be diabetic.
Gradually reduce the amount over time; this sounds like a little case of caffeine withdrawal. Try drinking slowly (if you do this right, you can make one can of soda last a whole day), or alternating drinks- drink a can of soda, then a glass of water or other healthy drink, etc. Don't be afraid to try new drinks to replace the soda- ever tried green tea, white tea, juices of exotic fruits, or other "unusual" things? You may decide you like them even more than soda. If you're good in the kitchen, you could even try making your own soda; this way, you can control how much sugar, caffeine, and other ingredients are in it. (There are numerous recipes online for homemade soda.) One common mistake you don't want to make is replacing regular sodas with diet- some studies have suggested that they cause more tooth decay than regular and don't do any good for weight loss efforts.
