Feeling Lightheaded when i get up too fast. . .?

Question:
Ok, i am only 13 years old, but sometimes when i stand up too quickly after laying down or sitting for a while i get lightheaded, and things blackout for a couple of seconds. ( not completely black out, just go fuzzy a bit).
Last night though, it happened again, and this time i fell and got a scrape on my back.

So please tell me, Is this a serious problem? Should i consult a doctor with this?
If not, what is wrong with me? Is this normal?

What you have described is Orthostatic Hypotension!

Orthostatic hypotension is a sudden fall in blood pressure that occurs when a person assumes a standing position. It may be caused by hypovolemia (a decreased amount of blood in the body), resulting from the excessive use of diuretics, vasodilators, or other types of drugs, dehydration, or prolonged bed rest. The disorder may be associated with Addison's disease, atherosclerosis (build-up of fatty deposits in the arteries), diabetes, and certain neurological disorders including Shy-Drager syndrome and other dysautonomias. Symptoms, which generally occur after sudden standing, include dizziness, lightheadedness, blurred vision, and syncope (temporary loss of consciousness).

When orthostatic hypotension is caused by hypovolemia due to medications, the disorder may be reversed by adjusting the dosage or by discontinuing the medication. When the condition is caused by prolonged bed rest, improvement may occur by sitting up with increasing frequency each day. In some cases, physical counterpressure such as elastic hose or whole-body inflatable suits may be required. Dehydration is treated with salt and fluids.

The prognosis for individuals with orthostatic hypotension depends on the underlying cause of the condition.

The NINDS supports research on conditions such as neurogenic orthostatic hypotension aimed at increasing scientific understanding of the condition and finding ways to treat and prevent it.

This could be cause by your long distance running or swimming.
Ordinary nonprofessional runners were surveyed about the psychological aspects of running. Many of the respondents had started running to improve their health, and almost all noted mental and emotional benefits including relief of tension, improved self-image, and better mood. About one half describe trance-like states, enhanced visual imagery, and creative episodes. Two thirds have experienced the familiar "runner's high" in slightly less than half of their runs. Several possible explanations for the high are described, including self-hypnosis, increased CNS norepinephnne, and increased endorphin release.
lol yeah its normall it can be cosed by not drinking enought water so drink abotu 15 glasses for the next few days and it also can be ur tierd so go to bed at a decint time and dont take to many naps over sleeping cna make u tierd also being in a differnt elevation than u used to be in so maby if u r on vacation or something some were else that might be it but i suggest water i had the same problyem
... it's called orthostatichypotension. (technically) its perfectly normal.

it's just a slight drop in blood pressure from standing up too quickly after a period of lying or sitting down.

you could also be slighly dehydrated. be sure to drink lots of water.
Im not a doctor but this happens to many people when they get up to fast. When you are laying down or sitting down and relaxed. You heart beats more slowly and your blood pressure goes way down. When you stand up suddenly your body is not prepared for the extra strain and your blood pressure is not high enough to get the blood to your brain that quickly. So for a few seconds you could faint or have a blackout. When you jump up your blood pressure is going against gravity and your blood is being pushed down towards your legs and its more pressure then is pushing up. And blood runs out of your brain. Usually its not serious but have it checked out anyway.

When you are about to get out of bed sit up, move around a bit get your heart beating again and get up slowly. That will probably fix it. But you might want to have your blood pressure checked anyway. Check with a doctor to be sure.
I have the very same thing happen to me and it is always associated with a blood sugar drop. You may want to have your doctor check your glucose levels.

Good Luck.
Unless you're way too skinny, this is normal. Just remember to get up slowly. If you're anorexic, START EATING!! :)byw, you probably have low blood pressure, which is actually good, unless either number goes below 90 over 60. You can get your BP taken at any fire station. Really.
well u may want to start wearing a helmet...my freind has the same thing happen to him and one night he was crashed out and his mom woke him up and he stood up and took a step and he went head first into his book shelf...it was kinda funny but i didnt laugh until we knew he was ok...i dont think he got any cuts or anything just a good size red mark

pretty normal
