How dangerous is marijuana?

Question:
Is it addictive? Can a user overdose? How many people die a year from abuse?

Answers:
This question is more legitimate than a lot of people would like to believe. The reality is, there are tons and tons of studies, and many are finding that our preconceived notions about marijuana are incorrect. The main reason is that the old studies from around the time Reefer Madness came out was all a bunch of lies. The government altered the studies actual results to make Marijuana sound like it would kill you, when really is is less harmful than cigarettes or alchohol. It is addictive, but less so than a regular, totally legal cigarette. You cannot overdose, although I would assume that at a certain point your judgement gets so impaired you are a serious danger to yourself, and very few people die (if any) from the marijuana itself in the short term, although long term effects that come from anything you smoke are expected. Most marijuana's effects wear off after 2 to 3 hours.

Read this, it sheds light on how our government views marijuana. Keep in mind it's bias as a organization trying to make marijuana legal. I personally do not smoke it, but I do think peopel should have the choice to do so if they please.
no. no. none.

However it can make you really self centered and cause you to get lost in your own mind and out of touch with reality if you do it too much
Are you just ignorant?
another self-fulfilling question from a hippie
it's not that dangerous
as long as you're not addicted
yes, it's addictive. yes a user can overdose. a lot of people die a year from abuse. check out this website.
They just came out recently about a study that links marijuana with Heart disease...and its illegal...that should tell you something....Nuf Said
NOT physically addictive.. sometimes a little mentally addictive... It is impossible to overdose.. and there is NOT ONE case of anyone ever dieing from pot itself.. Those are the facts and are documented..

Link to heart desease?? come on where did you ever hear that?? geez if you dig hard enough you can link water to heart desease! Yes it's illegal only because the government can't make taxes on it or control it.
Well I didnt think it was too dangerous until I was sent a link from MSNBC today which stated that smoking one average sized joint of weed (canibis) does nearly the same amount of lung damage as five cigarettes (tobacco). However, it is prescribed by doctors to treat the symptoms of certain medical conditions, so it cant be too dangerous. I do believe it is addicting, but I think it depends on the person and whether they let themselves become addicted. I have never heard of anyone dying from smoking too much, but you can def smoke so much you cant move, which can be extremely dangerous and quite scary...[[trust me]]. Im sure marijuana has played a role in tons of deaths across the world, however Im not sure about someone dying strictly from smoking weed without any other factors.
yes its addictive, no you cannot overdose, ppl die from lung cancer and things like that because it is like smoking!! And it is against the law!!
it may be more harmful than cigarettes because theres no filter, and it is only "more harmful" than booze because you dont see things on tv that say "dont do weed and drive"
Supposedly its 5 times more carcinogenic than tobacco (Bob Marley died from lung cancer) and he was on a pound a week. Also cause electrical synapses in the brain to trigger randomly so that user starts hearing voices, contributes to paranoid shcitzophrenia, and causes cancers in the body. Is addictive for sure, but its usually called a gateway drug because its not as bad as the more potent drugs like crack cocaine, crystal meth, herion and others, so the dealers use weed as a way to get you hooked on the stronger stuff. They usually lace weed with PCP crack or heroin in larger and larger doses till youre completely screwed, and totally dependant on their supply. Drugs are for losers.
Addiction is a hard topic. It certainly isn't addictive the way alcohol and cigarettes can be. Regardless of what you hear overdosing is almost impossible, then only way it might be done is it was consumed by eating, and even then the amount you would have to take would be ridiculous. Marijuana has what you would call pre-carcinogens, which make you more susceptible to carcinogens like those contained in cigarettes. So while it won't cause cancer itself, it doesn't help. Nobody dies solely from using pot. Although I wouldn't recommend smoking and driving, or using heavy machinery!!
