Can you go deaf from listening to white noise too loud?

Question:

I live in a condo complex with a very inconsiderate neighbor, who literally is out of her mind. She plays her music all the time with this enormous stereo speaker in a 600 square foot dwelling and I'm right above her. I've spoken to her about the music many times, and while she has lowered it a bit, I can still hear the bass from her songs. I pretty much become instantaneously angry when I hear it and it's affecting my quality of life. Sometimes she plays music in the middle of the night and I get awoken, not being able to sleep until she (or sometimes the next door neighbor) stop. I bought a white noise machine and it has helped, but it still doesn't filter the bass out. I was figuring that if I get a white noise CD I can easily filter it out directly, because the ear buds will be directly in my ears. I'm concerned though that it'll contribute towards deafness, does anyone know if you can go deaf from listening to white noise too loudly?

Loud noise is known to cause sensori neural deafness. Mind you this type of deafness is difficult to treat. It occurs in two stages:
On exposure to transient loud noise there is a transient sensorineural deafness. This deafness gradually becomes better within a week, provided the person has come out of the noise exposure. This is known as temporary threshold shift.

The next one is the permanent threshold shift which occurs on continued and prolonged exposure to noise. This is irreversible deafness about which we should be bothered.

I'm not sure if white noise can affect your hearing. Find out what the noise ordinance is where you live. If possible call the police on the neighbor. No one should have to tolerate that type of racket.
