I think I need to quit drinking?
Question:
At first it seemed okay and I was having Big time fun, I also started dating someone who also likes to drink, so I have been off and running this past year.
I have done some pretty stupid things while drunk but this past week I am finally realizing that I really do need to quit again.
I went to a concert that I had been looking forward to for MONTHS and I got so drunk, I don't even remember the show at all! Then last night I went to an event where there was booze and I drank, got totally wasted! and fell over a small fence into a pile of rocks I have a huge gash on my chest, Large abrasion across my face and broke a finger, I realize today it could have been way worse, I could have knocked out some teeth!
Then I get in my car and DRIVE home! I am amazed I am alive, and so grateful I did not hurt anyone.
I am a bit aprehensive about going back to AA.
Answers:
^By acknowledging you have a problem you took the first step, now you have to walk into a meeting before you do hurt yourself further or someone else.
You need to stay away from people who drink, especially heavy drinkers, you need to surround yourself with people who really care and can understand what you're going through, what better place than A A. Please get the help you need, you know you shouldn't drive while you're drunk, please before you do kill yourself and/or take someone with you. Good luck, your in my prayers, I hope this helps.
Go back to AA... they will welcome you.but find another group you are comfortable with, and start over. The door is always open...a new sponsor might be a good idea, too.
Good luck to you.you did it before...you CAN do it again. Remember : one day at a time.
Maybe you can find another group. There has to be another AA meeting where you live. You clearly need some support with this.
Suck it up and go. If you are saying that you need to quit drinking, you are probably right. If drinking isn't an issue you don't think about should I or shouldn't I. If you were sober for 11 years you can do it again but this time remember is is a long way to fall when you fall off the wagon. Your emarrassement about going back to AA is the least of your worries. You are damned lucky you didn't kill anyone driving home.
If you have medical insurance you can get better treatment than the loony groups. I went through it and a with counseling/excersize i was able to drop it. I drink some now but in moderation, you realy can do it! Dont allow yourself to get behind the wheel like that - you are an adult...you're more responsible than that. Get some help even if you aren't comfortable doing it.
best of luck
Dan
yea man you CAN do it! if you believe in god or raised a christian then you CAN totally turn to god! hes there for you all the time! but you must open yourself up..i make the mistake also by shutting him out and when i open myself back up i can sense the presence of him..so that is who you can turn to for help..godluck and godspeed!
