Hiccups are caused by the epiglottis flopping over your air tube. It is supposed to just stay over the tube to block any food from going down that tube, but sometimes when you drink too fast or for one of my friends when they get hungry it starts to flop. Drink any kind of drink upside down and that makes hiccups go away.
Either drinking too much and not eating enough or eating to much and not drinking enough. the best way to get rid of them is to drink something but when you drink it do not breathe.
I'm not quite sure what causes hiccups, but the best cure I have found is taking a spoonful of sugar and washing it down with a glass of water. Works for me (almost) every time!
actually i don't really know what causes them but if i eat fast i get hiccups and i just drink water!
(just trying to help)^_^!
Hiccups are when your diaphragm involuntarily spazzes. I find that the best way to get rid of them is by drinking water/swallowing repeatedly while upside down. You can find home remedies here:

Nobody actually know for certain what is the root cause of hiccups. There are a few "scientific" remidies, such as stimulating a nerve near the temples on your head. I can't remember what the nerve is called but it is recognized by doctors are a real way to get rid of them.
actually no one knows what causes but they do know what happens to your body to when you get it. usually holding your breath or drinking water helps
