Is it true that too much vit. E is bad for the body?
Question:
Answers:
Vitamin E is found in nature as a complex of several alcohols, such as alpha tocopherol. We know of about 7 tocopherols that make up the vitamin E complex. If you are talking about a synthetic vitamin E, this is toxic to the body and will damage your DNA if you take if for any length of time at all.
Food is not made up as a single vitamin and for good reason. There are many ingredients that are necessary for vitamin E to be truly affective. Since it is an oil soluble vitamin, it can be toxic in very high quantities over time. But, if you consume a huge amount of food that contains vitamin E complex, you will just get full. If your digestive organs, like your liver and gall bladder are not functioning properly, you will not digest the vitamin E properly and you will find that it is toxic to the body.
I strongly suggest staying away from pills that contain vitamin E because the pills contain magnesium stearate that inhibits the absorption of the nutrient, suppresses the immune system, and is a trans fat. Manufacturers put over 5% of the total milligram content in each pill. So a 1,000 milligram pill would have 50 milligrams of this trans fat. The trans fat is terrible for the body.
Dr. Shute, years ago, did many studies on race horses and demonstrated clearly that vitamin E can have a dramatic effect on the performance of race horses and humans. The name of the book was, "a key to your healthy heart." The problem is like so many studies that are done, that when you start trying to get the same results, you need to follow exactly what was done in the study, not just take some pill manufactured by a company promoting the pill as the "end all." Vitamin E can be very effective and is a necessary vitamin we need to be getting, but only if it is a very high quality and our bodies are healthy and can digest it properly.
There are companies that have quality vitamins made as a matrix of nutrients that support the good assimilation with no toxic tagalongs.
good luck to you

Natural Vitamin E, that is d-alpha tocopherol, is good for you. Doses of 400 IU a day or even higher up to 800 IU a day are quite safe and actually thin your blood as well.
Very high doses are not recommended.
A Yahoo search for " Vitamin E" + overdose (OR toxic) should tell you what doses are too much and dangerous.
