Load up on Vitamin C. They have tablets that are 833% of the daily value and it says on the bottle to take one or two daily, but if you feel a cold coming on I've taken 4 at a time every 8-12 hours and it's usually gone within a day.
Good old fashioned chicken broth. And vitamin C pills. If you are a drinker of any kind try a hot toddy before bed. At the very least you will sleep like a baby.

Feeding the cold, is the original cure. vitimin C like all other vitimins is great, but ZINC supplements are supposed to help speed the recovery. Smoking or drinking can lengthen your cold. Drinking and medications sometimes make you feel better, then you don't rest enough, making your body work harder to repair itself, and your cold last longer.

Do yourself, and everyone else a favor, rest and keep everything you've sneezed on and touched clean. Wash your sheets and pillow cases.

Get as much rest as you can (if you're able to, stay home from work and just rest at home; even one day of this makes a huge difference), drink fluids, inhale steam, break out the heating pad for any aches you have, and don't take cold medicine, as this has been shown to make colds last longer. If you live with anyone else, let them know that you have a cold and want to be left alone; it's better for you to just relax by yourself and not have people bugging you or making you do things for them.
