Do humans need to worry about vitamins or getting enough of them in foods?

Sounds like a silly question, but my husband refuses to waste any of his time worrying about this issue. He always uses this "defense".."my grandparents lived until their late 90's and my parents are old and very healthy. They never took vitamins or worried about what they ate. They just ate normal food!" Whenever I talk about wanting to take a vitamin he worries that it will kill me and that the government and pharm. industry tell people that they need vitamins so they can make money. Right now all I am taking is a B complex liquid supplement. My husband is sure its going to kill me (I don't like to hide things from him). I try to get the rest of my vitamins and minerals from foods. Whenever I say there is scientific proof that vitamins are important he says they are all done by the government and the data is inaccurate or something along those lines.

What do you think about the vitamin/health issue? And what can I tell my husband so that he doesn't freak out so much?

wow what a question. I would suggest trying to get your vitamins from organic fruits and vegatables. Thats what I do. Maybe your husband would feel better about you eating this way because there are no pesticides in organic produce just a whole lot of vitamin content. to learn more about what viamins are in what vegatables etc. I would suggest my favorite web site Care2.com. ur just concerned about his health, and yes vitamins are very necessary or u need to eat foods such as fruits and veggies, there is so much research on the benifits of vitamins in ur diet.
problem is the food today is not the same food his grandparents ate...today food is processed and has so many chemicals added that there is very little nutritional value to most of what we eat
in his grandparents day it was easy to get the vitamins you needed from your food but in todays age it is not
YES! infact, because i wasen't getting enough my feet was starting to cramp and other stuff like that. SO try fruits and veggies!
