How do we get earwax?

Question:
I'm not really sure... my brother said it was something like 'when your brain is working'. I don't think that's true?
Is it a joke or is it really true?

Answers:
Ear wax is made by skin glands near our ear drums. The wax protects the ear canals and acts as a barrier against bugs and bacteria. Only in cartoons can it be used for candles! Tiny glands in the ear canal produce cerumen (se-ROO-muhn). Cerumen is the medical word for earwax.
Earwax is produced with the skin cells inside your ear. It's purpose is to trap dirt, dust, and anything else that might get in your ear. When alot of dirt has gotten into your ear over one or two days so you notice that earwax is in there, it's just because alot of dirt has been collected in it.
It's just the way that part of our body is supposed to be. We can clean out the excess and go on our way.
Your brother is a joker.
