Underactive thyroid, is this causing depression?
Question:
Im not on any medication for it and just wanted to know how to handle it until then, sometimes i want to hide away and cry but i can't due to being a mum to a very demanding baby.
Also are there any supplements that may help?
Thanks :o)

You have indicated that you have had a recent blood test to check your thyroid levels and it is indicating that you are underactive if that is the case you definitely need to be on supplement like thyroxine. Go back to your G.P and get him to start you on something ASAP. Only once you have started taking the thyroxine if your symptoms have not improved 3 months down the line and your blood tests are then normal then it may be worth considering post natal depression. I don't understand how your underactive thyroid will rectify itself without any medication. I would get it sorted ASAP 3 months is along time to wait when you are feeling like you do. Most definitely can cause depression
With any thyroid condition you must be checked regularly and adjust meds as needed, my family has this condition and there are a lot of ups and downs with their moods when the meds are not balanced hope this helps
I have an underactive thyroid and also suffered from PND, the two are definitely linked. Why has your GP not put you on thyroxine? When I was first diagnosed I was told to eat a handful of mustard seeds each day, worth a try. You can contact me if you want to, might help to know someone else has been there! Take care
If you are hypothyroid and have the symptom of depression get on a T4/T3 medication like Armour. Armour seems o help with depression, fatigue, hairloss, and muscle and joint aches. It is adjused by a morning free t4 and free t3 test. The dosage is split in half taking 1/2 n the morning and half in the afternoon. It's the T3 that helps the symptom of fatigue that's why splitting the dose helps.
Starting at the bottom, neither supplements nor vitamins will make you feel better. Assuming that your thyroid blood test has been checked recently and is normal, I am afraid you can't blame your thyroid disease either. You may therefore be a victim of a level of post natal depression. Have another chat with your GP.
You may benefit from a visit to the private hospital below, they are experts at dealing with unusual sets of symptoms, which you seem to have,so at least you may get a second opinion-They also deal with vaccine issues.
