Small knot on top of head?

Question:
I have had a small knot on the top of my head for at least a year now. It is about the size of a pencil eraser, round, and it feels fairly solid no movement. It gets a little sore if I push on it but not much and it doesn't linger. My wife looked at it and said it looked flesh colored so its no a mole I don't think. It doesn't appear to big getting larger, but im not 100%. Cyst mabe? Just don't know if I need a doctors appointment for something like this.

Answers:
Sounds like an epidermal cyst. (or, less likely, a sebacious cyst).
If so, it is harmless and nothing needs to be done.

However, with a very easy in-office procedure, it could be removed. Though, some Family Physicians or Internal Medicine Physician might end up referring you to a dermatologist to have it removed...(some don't like procedures, don't take the time to do them, or don't do them enough to feel comfortable doing them...). And, it is questionable whether your insurance would pay for it...unless it was causing you problems (pain, etc.).

Either way, an evaluation by a physician would be wise...just to confirm the diagnosis and make sure it is nothing serious. Maybe make it part of a check-up, if you haven't had one in awhile...and get more out of your visit...like a cholesterol check, etc.

Hope this helps!
