im 16 and i cant fall asleep. i can sometimes fall asleep but i keep waking up every like 10mins why

how many of out there are like me

Answers:
I'm 15, and I have a hard time getting to sleep too. The reason why I can't usually get to sleep is because I have Pepsi or Coke Cola or something else with caffeine in it sometime during the day. I also can't get to sleep because I worry about a lot of things (life in general, school, etc). I would ask your parents/guardians/doctor or someone if you can take some Tylenol PM or something before you go to bed.
stress?

i cant but i think its because i have so much on my mind. i think for an hour and a half to 2 hours till i fall alseep. it sucks
I too have that issue. I seem to be doing a lot of thinking before bed which keeps me awake.

Exercise has helped me sleep soundly.
I used to be like that. Now when I can't sleep, I kind of do this thing where I start at my toes and relax every muscle in my body. Then I just try to stop thinking and be completely relaxed. I usually fall asleep before that point.

You might be too stressed, or you might just not be tired when you are going to bed.
i think u have asomina...go to the doctor and get help...or go to this website to get ideas.

my sister has this problem. she's takes sleeping pills and she's built up quit a tolerance. i think you all are just crazy and need a good binge to make you sleep for a few days. also when she does sleep she screams.
i used to be like that..it's mostly because of anxiety..i take medications that help me, and it helps me fall asleep.

For you however, at your age, i recommend maybe excersizing more or watching what you eat b4 going to bed.

You may be anxious about something too...when you find out what that is and a solution to that problem..you'll probably be able to sleep better.
try stayin up ALL nite for a day (24 hrs) and then stay awke as long as possible the next day and youll be able to fall asleep fast for like a month so do this like once a month. if that dont work then:-/ it worked for me!!... i had the same prob
There are certain things that can cause this. One of which is drinking caffeine before bed time, this will cause you to have insomnia. Try cutting out sodas by no later than 7pm. Also, there are several phsychological factors that could be the cause, in which case you would need to seek treatment. Never heard of too many 16 year olds that can't sleep though, thought all you could sleep 20 hours a day.
I agree. I have a hard time sleeping too. My doctor said that it is normal for teens to have a hard time falling asleep because they are thinking too much about what happened during the day. So it's normal. To help you fall asleep, try reading a book or drinking tea. There are also special relaxing exercises you can do before bed to help you fall asleep and stay asleep.
Hope this helps!
i feel ya man. all day my mind just fires blanks. once i lay down to go to sleep, the old noggen go in ultra thinking mode and im screwed.
Try a cup of Chamomile tea before bed, it really relaxes you, and will help you sleep.
i used to have this problem then i figured out that it was because i just had too much energy left over. your body will sleep best when it is exhausted so go out and exercise or join a team sport...something that gets you moving for an extended period of time every day. i garentee you will sleep a million times better after so much exercise.
it takes me ages to fall asleep
when my friends come over to stay, it amazes me how they cant not really be tired, but still manage to fall straight asleep as soon as their head touches the pillow
so yeah.. welcome to the insomniac club my dear :)
do you know about insomnia? because its more than likely you have it
i would tell you all i know, but you've probably already heard most of it from these guys that have already answered before me
plus, if you research it on google you'll find some more interesting stuff
but if you want a bit of personal experience.
some nights i dont get to sleep untill half 3/4, others its fine, around 1/2ish, but i always wake up in the night. its really bad cos ill go downstairs and watch some tv and that wakes me up even more
if im with company, at a friends house with lots of people sleeping over for example, ill usually stay up all night, even with school the next day. i cant help it though, its not like i WANT to stay up, its just unavoidable sometimes.
also, i dont get tired during the day even if ive had a sleepless night, so i guess insomnias not a bad thing for me, just very boring at the time. thats the reason i started daydreaming (even though its at night-time lol)
its a weird suggestion i know, but it really helped me.
you hear all these things like 'you should have a hot bath, warm drink and read a book before bed to make you sleepy', doesnt work for me personally. i take 'kalms' sleeping pills sometimes, but they make your body feel really tired and relaxed, but your heads still buzzing and eyes wide awake. also, when i take kalms, i find it really hard to get up in the morning for school. yeah so anyway back to my point, its a weird suggestion, but you should really try daydreaming when your trying to sleep. people sometimes say it keeps your brain active and wont let it shut down, but for me it helps to stop me think of things ive done through out the day and worrying about stuff. thats what keeps me awake.
ahhh oh no i've rambled on
sorry! and good luck xx
