How do I improve my memory of things I only look briefly at?

Question:
I'm a telecoms engineer and I often need to look at a password, extension number, login ID etc (rarely more than 6-7 characters) and recall it somewhere between 20 seconds and 5 minutes later.

I can only really at the detail briefly as I'm often flicking between other programs or on the phone, but I seem to have a problem storing it in my memory unless I consciously repeat it or make an effort to memorise it.

How can I improve this aspect of my memory so that I subconsciously remember the detail?

I'm only 26 and I've always had a reasonably good memory up until needing to remember these details so this is more than a little infuriating. Any help and insight would be really appreciated.

Answers:
you need to see your GP as at 26 that's very premature to be suffering memory loss because that's what it is
make it into a rhyme like drinking wine 9, on the loo 2 etc. i know daft but it works for me, cant you tell im a nursery teacher.
try jotting it down, works for me when recalling exchange numbers
i know how you feel... my memory is sh it too.
The more times each day that you look at it on paper,it should eventually stick in your mind.
Goodluck.

People with trained memories can do these things.
