I think I have adult ADD. Should I go to a psychiatrist, a therapist, or a physician? Help!?

Question:
I have no insurance and very little money so what would be cheaper? Also - I would like to try medication so what route would be most likely to offer me medication the fastest?

Answers:
Since you have no insurance, I assume you don't have a regular Doctor.

If that's the case, go see a Psychiatrist, only those two can actually prescribe medications, a Psychologist cannot.
don't go on meds ...

you'll crush your sense of self.
find alternative ways to excercise that characteristic.
I know someone who has adukt ADD and what you can do is go to your primary care physician and talk to him/her about your choices. Sometimes they will prescribe you the medication, otherwise they can refer you to where you need to go, given your situation. Visit websites that have information regarding ADD, they can be very helpful. Also, try some natural ways to try and help you with the ADD, websites will give you this info too.

Good Luck!
Are there any free resources you can use? For example, are you a college student? (Many colleges have counselors).

If not, I'd go to a physician first because they are usually cheaper.

Also, don't be so quick to go on medication, they aren't a miracle cure and tend to have a lot of side effects. And with no insurance, these meds tend to be expensive too.
