smaller, LIGHTER meals, more water with meals and talk to doc about meds to use for acid reflux.
I think Discover had the correct answer. Acid reflux will do this and while there are medications that will relieve the symptoms, there is no actual cure for it. What will eventually happen is that when the acid starts moving north it will assume that your esophagus is part of your stomach. A condition known as Barrett's Esophagus will develop and if left untreated, could cause cancer.
However, because of the discomfort and pain, I can't see anyone letting it get this far. A 10 minute test by an internist will allow him to see inside your esophagus and stomach. He can then prescribe the best course of treatment.
There are drugs like Nexium that will not only prevent the acid reflux that you now experience, but will promote healing in your esophagus.
