Adult children: My Mom is 74, lives alone, lets people she?

Question:
doesn't know very well, come live at her apt.. She's on Social Security and her apt. is in a Senior Living Complex. ( Rent subsidizes by the county.) These people , she claims have no where to live. She just ask my brother for $ 1000.00. Is she losing it? All opinions appreciated.

Answers:
She is lonely. And the money she is trying to get from your brother is probably a request from one of the house guests. Put the people out & let your mom know that she is only allowed to have company for one week. That is the law with them apartments. Tell her she could loose her place to live. Watch her finances close to make sure she isnt being swindled out of money. It may be time to start making some decisions for her if she cannot make healthy ones.
She may be lonely, or these people might be taking advantage of her - or both. There's a whole section of lowlifes who prey on the elderly. I'm surprised the complex allows this...maybe for her best interest you should contact the housing managers about it - if you know it wouldn't get HER kicked out too.

Good Luck, I hope everything turns out for the best.
Most likely she is not only providing a place for these people to live but also giving them money. If she asked your brother for money, he should not give it to her. Talk with the complex management and have them reinforce the rules regarding those who are not on the lease staying at her apartment. Allowing strangers into her home can be very dangerous to her well-being. There is also the potential for robbery. Discuss all of this with her. On a fixed income, she is in no position to help others. It is possible she needs more than a senior living arrangement. Look into assisted living for her.
you need to tell her the importance of not letting people in her house that she does not well at all ..maybe you need to put your foot down with her.. show her there are places they can go like homeless shelters and they will help them get a job and back on there feet again..also about your brother ask her to make him sign a a statement saying that he will repay it and the terms and condition... speaking of losing it i now help with a member of my family who has memory problems and she lets people in the house she does not know at all show her the danger
