My doctor wasn't interested in my health.im confused?

Question:
I went today to get a sports physical, and when I filled out my form I put down that I have headaches and shortness of breath.I waited almost 30 minutes for the doctor and finally when he came in, he only checked my heartbeat, how i walk, and if i had scoliosis. It seemed like the only thing he was interested in was if I had my shots, which i needed one, and he talked about me and my grades and what i wanted to be in life...etc.I was really confused because a year ago, it seemed like all he wanted to talk about was my health, and i was satisfied.im 12, and was hoping that this visit would see if i had asthma ... or at least tell me something about my headaches.he was busy, and i felt like i was put on the backburner, since i waited 30 minutes to see him for 3.should i schedule another visit?

Answers:
If you are concerned with your health and your needs were not addressed, then yes, you should schedule another visit just for the health issues you want addressed. Write out a list of questions you have for the doctor and ask them. Your doctor was probably back logged and didn't have time to discuss issues outside of the physical. (Not that that is an excuse.)

I recommend that you make sure at your next visit that you ask questions so that you get the information you want out of your appointment.

Good luck! Hope this helped.
Sounds like all the Dr.'s these days and this is really sad..they never address the issues they should and this is why the rate of malpractice is sky high!
yes, try to reschedual another appointment specifically for these problems, and if he still doesn't seem too interested then ask for a refferal to get a second opinion. second opinions never hurt.
no, you should have asked him in the office. and i doubt this is a 12 year old asking this question.
I used to have the same problem. They don't take you seriously because you are young. Be proactive while he's checking you remind of your syptoms, ask questions, see if there are any other test he can do. Show him that these aren't just "i don't feel good pains" be serious and he should be back. Hope it helps
If he didn't listen the first time he will definitaly not listen the second time, try wearing more clothes...lol...just joking. See another doctor...
Yes I would shedule another visit so you can be checked for asthma.
I think something that's very important to remember is that sometimes in a doctor's office you almost have to force them to check things. You have to directly ask what could be causing these headaches, and what could be causing shortness of breath, and what the next logical steps on taking care of these problems are.

Unfortunate, but kind of the way of things. I'd certainly go back if you have unanswered questions.
Waiting to see a doctor, while inconvenient, is no sign of his disinterest. You have no idea if other patients before hand ran over in their time due to their ailments or if he had an emergency. Throughout your life you will be waiting for doctors and dentists, get used to it!

When you spoke with the doctor, did you tell him/her about your concerns or what you hoped would be checked? A doctor is not a mind reader. If your last check up was healthy, then it may be practice to only check on things that generally change, curvature of spine, weight, height, etc. As the patient it is your responsibility to tell him/her what issues concern you. Otherwise how will the doc know?

Schedule another visit and outline your concerns. Explain why you feel that you need some additional tests and describe what your symptoms are. You are responsible for your health!

best wishes
First of all, I must say you sound very smart and mature for your age! =D

Personally, I think doctors today are simply in it for the money. I used to work in a doctors office so I know all about the protocol. Your doctor more than likely didn't even look at what you wrote. That's usually the nurse's job. She/he reads any additional details, informs the doctor, and the doctor comes in and says "ok, so I hear that you're having problems with this-and-this". I really do think you should reschedule. Did one of your parents go into the room with you? Next time, let him know exactly what you're feeling and what he suggests. Good luck, and I certainly hope you get to feeling better!
