Is it true that contact lenses are bad for your eyes?

Question: Like, I heard that it can damage your eyes permanently over time...is this true? If so, how and why?

Not so, I used them, but doctor recommended me use them no more of 10 years and I used 7, then he offered me the operation with laser and was succesful, no more lenses.
